Description
Saint Praxedis by Jan Vermeer – Handmade Oil Painting Reproduction
Saint Praxedis is a rare religious painting attributed to the young Jan Vermeer, completed in 1655. Unlike his famous quiet domestic interiors, this work tells the story of Saint Praxedis, an early Christian saint who collected the blood of martyrs.
The painting portrays Saint Praxedis kneeling in vivid red robes with soft white lace cuffs. She squeezes a blood-soaked sponge over an ornate bronze urn while clutching a wooden crucifix. In the background, we see the body of a martyr and Italian-style architecture under a deep blue sky. This piece reveals Vermeer’s early mastery of chiaroscuro, rich fabric rendering and emotional storytelling.
This is 100% hand-painted oil painting reproduction, NOT a printed poster. Our professional oil painters recreate every subtle nuance: the folds of the deep red gown, delicate lace, metallic texture of the antique vessel and the dramatic contrast of light and shadow in the original masterpiece.
